Scientific Writing and Publishing Workshop – Day 2

The Cluster of Research Excellence in Interdisciplinary Peace Research is currently running a workshop on Scientific Writing and Publishing. The workshop, which is taking place in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, commenced on Monday, 1st of July, and will run until 3rd of July 2024. The workshop is intended to build the writing and publishing skills of students enrolled in a PhD programme in the social sciences or peace and security studies and early-career postdoctoral researchers based at African and European universities.

The second day of the workshop commenced with a recap of what was covered during the first day of the workshop. This was followed by presentations on methodology in doctoral study and the opportunities and challenges of big data, artificial intelligence, and digital social research. For the remaining part of the day, participants were given the opportunity to do self-paced writing and listen to and engage in panel discussion on making their writings publishable. The day was concluded with a mentoring (coaching) session where participants were paired with a senior researcher to receive critical feedback on their research work.
